Course Description
NoticeAbility’s multifaceted curriculum serves to unlock the potential of students with dyslexia and other reading difficulties.
Although many students confronted with these academic challenges feel discouraged in school, this course enables them to adopt a growth mindset, learn effective strategies to innovate and create with teams of their peers, and realize their capabilities.
When students with these challenges are provided an empowering environment crafted to meet their needs, they can change the world.
Throughout this course, lessons, activities, and group assignments equip students with the tools necessary to succeed in school, in entrepreneurship, and in navigating challenging social and emotional experiences.
Over ten modules (20 classes), students work in small teams to accomplish the following:
identify a problem;
develop a creative solution to serve as their final product;
work through the entrepreneurial method by observing the usefulness of the product, asking others for input, and testing the product’s marketability;
create customer personas and conduct market and stakeholder analyses;
and, finally, apply all of their work and findings in developing a culminating presentation in the form of a product pitch.
The course encourages students to tap into their ability to think broadly and creatively, while also providing scaffolding for them to apply critical thinking skills to improving their products from class to class.
Under the guise of teaching entrepreneurship, the course embeds lessons that develop students’ skills in collaboration and techniques for understanding their emotions and regulating their behaviors, all while fostering a safe learning environment.
